December 4, 2023 - Three student artists became the first winners in Comal ISD’s inaugural Christmas Card Contest and received a set of the district’s first Christmas Card featuring their designs along with a certificate, Target gift card and four passes to Natural Bridge Caverns Discovery Tour.
The three selections represent elementary, middle and high school categories with one design chosen as the cover art winner.
The 2023 Christmas Card cover depicts Comal ISD’s new motto, “Growing Greatness” and features two snowmen, a Christmas tree and snowflakes. Created by Adele Earnest, a sixth-grade student from Church Hill Middle School, this design was selected from more than 100 entries. Her art teacher is Kendra Ferrell.
The other two designs by an elementary student and a high school student are featured on the back of the 2023 card.
The winner for elementary is Ella Zapata, a fourth-grade student from Goodwin Frazier Elementary School. Her design features a Christmas scene with a tree in the middle, a snowman family, children, houses, stars and is titled “Have a Holly Jolly Christmas.” Her art teacher is Aristomelia Gil Matos.
The winner for high school is Gabriella Viccellio, a 10th-grade student from Davenport High School. Her design features a front door decorated with garland. Her art teacher is Mark Harrison.
The cards have been sent to all Comal ISD employees.
The district would like to give a special ‘thank you’ to Natural Bridge Caverns for providing each winner with four passes to its Discovery Tour. Learn more about Natural Bridge Caverns and its 10th Anniversary of Christmas at the Caverns, here.
