May 22, 2023 - The Smithson Valley girls track team won the 2023 UIL Class 5A Girls Track & Field State Championship. Together, the team brought home gold medals in the 4x200 meter relay, the 4x400 meter relay as well as individual medals in the long jump and the 200-meter race.
The 4x200 meter relay gold medal team consisted of Alyssa Jones, Jatorie Mobley, Jacquelyn Rolle and Favour Uduji with Maycee Moody as alternate.
The 4x400 meter relay gold medal team consisted of Jones, Mia Perez, Jazmyn Singh and Favor Uduji with Zada Zimmerman as alternate.
Jones also brought home a gold medal in the 200 meter and a silver in the long jump, while Singh qualified for the 400 meter and Ella Pickron qualified in pole vault.
The SVHS coaches are Bren Jones and Trenton Hall.
From Canyon High School, Grace Conley qualified for state in the triple jump. Coaches are Glen Gamez and Steven Fiala.
From Canyon Lake High School, Alencia Lentz brought home the gold medal in pole vault, and Cadence Patterson placed fifth in the 1600 meter race. Coaches are Sami Theurer and Bill Greene.
From Davenport High School, Christian Pena qualified in both the 3200 meter and 1600 meter, placing eighth in both at the state meet. Coach is Mike Burgess.
From Pieper High School, Caroline Peterson brought home the silver medal in high jump. Coach is Ryan Pease.
From the SVHS boys team, Arthur Breault qualified for the 400 meter and the 4x400 meter relay; Jahirey Calais was an alternate for the 4x400 meter relay; Jalen Davis was on the 4x400 meter relay; Frederick Dubose brought home the bronze medal for the 400 meter race; Elijah Hudson was on the 4x400 meter relay; Gavin Kantorak was an alternate for the 4x400 meter relay; Jaxson Maynard qualified in the discuss; and Kevin Uduji was alternate for the 4x400 meter relay.
