Sept. 28, 2022 - The Comal Independent School District is hosting its annual INCubator Community Kick-Off Event 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25, at Nissan of New Braunfels.
Community business leaders and entrepreneurs are invited to learn more about the district’s INCubator program which teaches students how to develop a product or service, pitch it to local investors and see it to fruition.
INCubator partners are needed to help serve as coaches, mentors, judges and volunteers with high school students who are enrolled in INCubator program classes at Canyon High and Smithson Valley High schools.
This program offers students a true entrepreneur experience where they develop a product or service and pitch it to local business investors. In its fifth year, this career and technical education (CTE) program’s success stems from the partnerships with community business leaders and entrepreneurs including the Comal Education Foundation.
A few of last year’s business pitches include Blade Homes, Snap and Go, Stoozies and Coastal Youth. Last spring, Stoozies won first place on Pitch Night, where the top teams compete in a Shark Tank-style contest, and then competed in College Station, earning almost $2,000 in additional investment funds. Stoozies was promoting a heated shoe tree; Blade Homes was promoting the use of recycled turbine blades for manufactured homes; Snap and Go boasted safely securing items to car seats; and Coastal Youth was an all-natural acne repair product.
The INCubator teacher at CHS is Terrie Nowlin, and the teacher at SVHS is Ashlee Ward.
