June 21, 2022 - The Comal ISD Board of Trustees recognized 30 agriculture science students who qualified for state FFA competitions this spring as well as the district’s first National PTA Reflections winner during its monthly board meeting Monday.
Peyton Crow, a second-grade student from Indian Springs Elementary made district history when her photography entry in the annual PTA Reflections contest received an Award of Excellence at the National PTA Reflections contest. Her creativity was inspired by this year’s theme, “I will change the world by . . . .” Read more about Crow and her honor in the story recently published.
This year, FFA students from Canyon Lake High School and Smithson Valley High School brought home accolades from area and state competitions in various Career Development Events (CDE) including a third and fourth place in state for team events and a second place in state for Elizabeth Haegelin from SVHS in agricultural sales.
These CDE events allow students to build on their agricultural classes, allowing them to put their knowledge to work. Designed to prepare students for a career in agriculture, these events test and challenge a student’s technical, leadership, interpersonal and team skills as well as subject knowledge.
Here is a list of the state qualifying teams and their members from CLHS and SVHS. The CLHS teams were coached by CLHS agriculture science teachers Alyssa Peterson and Morgan Webel. The SVHS teams were coached by SVHS agricultural science teachers Hailey Bull, Tara Pennartz and Brady Reid.
