Parents with children completing kindergarten this school year are invited to attend an informational meeting for the district’s Spanish Immersion Program. This year, the district will offer four meetings, one at each of our Spanish Immersion campuses.
- 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at Hoffmann Lane Elementary
- 6 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at Johnson Ranch Elementary
- 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, at Oak Creek Elementary
- 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Rahe Bulverde Elementary
The Spanish Immersion Program is designed for English-speaking students who are interested in learning Spanish in order to become bilingual, bi-literate and bi-cultural. Only students who will have completed kindergarten at a Comal ISD campus and who will be entering the first grade are eligible for the program in the fall of 2022.
Currently, four Comal ISD elementary campuses offer this program including Hoffmann Lane Elementary, Johnson Ranch Elementary, Oak Creek Elementary and Rahe Bulverde Elementary. However, students who attend other Comal ISD elementary schools are invited to apply for the program. If accepted, parents will need to provide their own transportation to these campuses daily.
Students who begin this program in the first grade are expected to continue in the program through the fifth grade. Those who successfully complete the Spanish Immersion Program may choose to enter the Comal ISD Advanced Language Program (CALP) in middle school to continue their Spanish language development.
Anyone interested in the Spanish Immersion Program is asked to complete this form and attend one of the informational meetings where additional criteria will be shared. Parent attendance in one of these meetings is REQUIRED to receive an application.
Please find more information attached in a program flyer and visit the Comal ISD Spanish Immersion website.
