Clear Spring Elementary Teacher Receives KENS 5 Excel Award

January 20, 2022 - This year’s Comal ISD KENS 5 Excel Award honoree is a Clear Spring Elementary teacher who changed careers, in order, to make a difference in the lives of children.

Courtney Davis, a fifth-grade teacher at CSES, was surprised when the announcement was made and found family, friends and colleagues on hand to celebrate with her.

“I am extremely honored and grateful to receive this award,” says Davis, who has been teaching for five years. “To represent a district so rich with some of the best educators our state has to offer, is an opportunity I take with great pride.”

The KENS 5 Excel Award honors the best educators in the San Antonio community. Annually, the news station visits 19 school districts and highlights one educator in each district who helps change kids’ lives. The Excel Award is sponsored by Credit Human.

Davis, who was named the Comal ISD District Elementary Teacher of the Year for 2020-21, believes that the relationships she builds with each of her students is the most important part of teaching.

“It is my belief that every child needs a champion,” she says. “We can’t control how they come into our room, but we can control how they leave our classroom each day. Once a child knows they matter, that you hear them, and most of all, that they believe in you, the world of opportunity for that child becomes limitless. Relationships matter.”

Congratulations!
