If you have a senior at one of our high schools, you likely are helping them decide what they will do after they graduate next May. If college is in their plan, financial aid may be an important part of their journey.
An important step in this process is completing and submitting a FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid. This form can determine a student's eligibility for financial aid – including loans, grants and scholarships – for all income levels. Many colleges and universities, especially public institutions, may require this form.
Beginning this school year, completing a FAFSA is a state requirement for all seniors in order to graduate. As part of this requirement, students must:
- Complete and submit a FAFSA; or
- Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA); or
- Submit a signed opt-out form.
The 2022-23 FAFSA form is now open. See FAFSA site. Completing the FAFSA form is free.
A student also may opt out of the FAFSA financial aid application graduation requirement. Look for more information soon on this option.
If you have questions about FAFSA, stop by the College, Career and Military Fair this Wednesday, Oct. 20, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Davenport High School. A room at the Fair will be dedicated to providing students and parents with information about the FAFSA.
