Comal ISD Seeking Business Professionals to Coach Young Entrepreneurs

September 7, 2021 - The Comal Independent School District is hosting an informational recruiting event for local business professionals to coach and mentor student entrepreneurs enrolled in its INCubator business program.

The INCubator Coach and Mentor Happy Hour begins with networking at 5:30 p.m. followed by a presentation at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, at the Support Services building, 1404 IH 35 N., New Braunfels.

In its third year, the INCubator business program is part of Comal ISD’s expanding career and technical education, CTE, courses. It offers high school students the opportunity to learn what it takes to become their own boss and launch a business.

As this year gets underway, the three district campuses which currently offer this program include Canyon High, Canyon Lake High and Smithson Valley High. Each campus is looking for community business professionals to serve as coaches and mentors for these budding entrepreneurs.

Coaches are asked to share their expertise in the areas of ideation, customer segmentation, marketing, legal aspects, revenue forecasting, sales and more.

They also serve as advisers to student entrepreneur groups by helping them develop and pitch their ideas, products or services.

The course culminates in a Shark Tank-style event where the young start-up company representatives present their product or service to a group of executives who decide whether to invest or fund their dreams. If funding is awarded, the companies take the next step in making their products or services a reality; if they are not funded, they may go back to the drawing board or refocus their efforts.

Business professionals who are interested in participating are asked to complete the volunteer form and attend the recruiting event on Tuesday. For more information, contact Tanya Livingston.
