Canyon High School Senior Receives Texas PTA Scholarship

A Canyon High School senior has received one of only 15 Texas PTA Scholarships for her involvement in community, school and PTA activities throughout her high school career.

Emily Miller, 18, was surprised and honored when she discovered she was one of the 2020-2021 $1,000-scholarship awardees from Texas PTA. She has been a student member of the Canyon High School PTSA since she was a freshman.

“Receiving this scholarship means a lot,” says Miller, who attended Freiheit Elementary and Church Hill Middle schools. “It means that my hard work and school involvement did not go unnoticed. I have watched my Mom’s involvement in PTA and witnessed how hard the committees worked to put events and fundraisers together to benefit students. That really pushed me to volunteer and be involved, knowing it would impact others.”

Ranked in the top 5 percent of her graduating class, Miller has been accepted into the STEM MBA program of the Jerry S. Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University and plans to work as a data analyst one day.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, the CHS girls basketball team, the CHS Chapter of Because I Said I Would and Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). She was a member of the 2020 New Braunfels Youth Leadership class and works as a student intern in the Communications, Safety and Security and Superintendent’s office of Comal ISD.

Each year, Texas PTA awards $1,000 to eligible high school seniors and up to $500 scholarships to eligible faculty members at any school level that has a PTA/PTSA on their campus.

Congratulations, Emily!
